About Oxford Chai Education

A small, teacher-led practice in Oxford helping Chinese-speaking and international families navigate UK independent school entrance with clarity and calm.

Our story

Oxford Chai Education grew out of 柴老师 (Chai Laoshi) — a tutoring practice that began with a handful of Oxfordshire families preparing for 11+ assessments and grew by word of mouth across the UK, mainland China and Hong Kong.

The families we worked with shared the same frustration: plenty of noise about “getting into” top schools, very little honest, specific guidance on what a particular child actually needed. We set out to be the opposite — rigorous, transparent and kind.

Today we run small-group classes, one-to-one tuition and a dedicated writing programme, online and in Oxford. The public website you are reading is deliberately separate from our internal teaching systems: no pupil data lives here.

How we work

  • A diagnostic before any promise.
  • Small classes, grouped by level.
  • A written progress report every term.
  • We talk to parents in English or Chinese.
  • A child’s safety and privacy come first.

Where we teach

In person in Oxford, and online for families anywhere in the UK, mainland China and Hong Kong, with class times that work in both time zones. We also work with schools, relocation consultants and education agents — do get in touch.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us about your child, the school they are at now and the schools you have in mind. We will suggest a realistic plan — and say so plainly if we are not the right fit.
